Oscillator of Ueda

atlas
next - Oscillators of Van der Pol and Van der Pol - Duffing

Chaotic oscillations of periodically driven nonlinear oscillator were studied in some details around 1980 by a Japanese researcher Ueda. Systems of such kind can be realized as mechanical and electronic devices. Now an extensive literature exists devoted to the complex dynamics of forced oscillators with various potential functions, and a classification scheme is sketched based on ideas of the catastrophe theory.

On this page we present a chart of dynamical regimes built by means of computer solution of the differential equations. Colors designate periods (green - period of oscillations equals period of driving, yellow the oscillation period is doubled, orange - tripled, deep blue - quadrupled…), gray area corresponds to chaos. Phase portraits of attractors are shown around at some representative points of the parameter plane.
